What do Brazilian carnival samba and Finnish mythical creatures have in common?
Ever wondered what creatures dwell beneath the surface of the thousand lakes of Finland? Or what happens if you hunt animals in the enchanted forest too aggressively? Step into a magical world where samba rhythms meet the legends of the North!
Every summer, samba schools light up the Helsinki city streets with dazzling parades full of music, dance, and imaginative themes. This year, Helsinki Samba School Império do Papagaio takes on a fascinating new theme: Finnish Folklore.
Join us for a lively and unique cultural event, presented in collaboration with Luckan Integration, Familia ry, and ThinkAfrica.
Samba school members Luciana Mascarenhas and Maiju Virtala will guide you through the world of Finnish mythical creatures featured in this year’s parade, while also sharing insights into the global traditions of carnival samba. Afterwards, there will be time for questions and free mingling!
This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore the meeting point of Brazilian and Finnish cultures—and to discover how folklore comes to life through music, dance, and dazzling costume design.
We can’t wait to see you there!
